Uzungöl was a village connected to Of. Every historical change that happened in Trabzon affected Of and Çaykara. Today Uzungöl is connected to the Çaykara district.
Historical Records
When examined official documents the history of Uzungöl goes back to the years of 1683. Before then Uzungöl was known with a different name. They called this paradise Şerah. Looking in the archives of the Ottoman Empire, in 1643 there was a tax receipt from Şerah. But in those years there were no houses there. In 1681 there were 12 resident populations of households in Uzungöl. This population lived in Köseli, Şerah and Şekersu. According to the records of the year 1681, 2.5 Rub.Avarız Tax were taken from Şerah.
Here is an important point. It was observed that the population of Şerah in 1681 was 2.85% of Çaykara. With these developments, the town had the chance to grow larger and be more known of the country.
200 years later the Ottoman yearbooks dated 1876, according to the overall situation in Çaykara is as follows.
- In terms of population: from 1876 1681, the past last 195-year time frame in Uzungöl (Şarah) that is experiencing a rapid change in the population is observed.
- The same development has happened in the households. As the number of households increased from 12 to 229 the population also followed it as 60 to 710.
- In the year 1681, Köseli village was added to the census too.. However, in the census of 1876 the village square emerged as a separate area. It is known that Köseli village was connected to Uzungöl until a certain date. But after some time it has separated from Uzungöl.
- According to the 1876 census, Uzungöl was the second most crowded residential unit in Çaykara.
- By the date of 1879 in the town animal husbandry wasn’t advanced and it was observed that in the district -fed animals were only %0.43 was grown in the town.
- Because of its dense wooded environment, is concluded that the resort’s animal husbandry transports can be performed.
